Check out “DETOURS” an outdoor art exhibition on display at various locations along Highway 28 in Kings Beach starting today through September 30. The exhibition feature 11 site-specific public art pieces and introduce Tahoe Public Art, which is kicking off a fund raising effort to enhance North Lake Tahoe with public art.
The DETOURS exhibition includes 13 artists from the North Lake Tahoe/Truckee area, and two artists from Southern California. The site-specific art pieces celebrate Lake Tahoe, with each piece telling a story that interprets the site on which it is located. Visitors will leave their cars to embark upon a free, family-friendly “art treasure hunt” with the help of free walking maps available www.northtahoebusiness.org. Hard copies of the Detours Walking Map are available at the North Lake Tahoe Visitors’ Centers in Tahoe City and Kings Beach and near each art installation.

The 2014 July 3rd Fireworks & Beach Party will take place 4-10pm at the North Tahoe Event Center right on the beach at Kings Beach State Recreation Area. The event will include food vendors, a beer/wine and mixed drink garden, free watermelon eating, sand castle building and patriotic costume contests, games, music and live entertainment, fireworks glow toys, souvenirs and more.

Join Kings Beach for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony this Friday, December 6, 5-7pm at the North Tahoe Event Center. Enjoy photos with Santa, complimentary soup and cocoa, arts and crafts stations and Friends of Kings Beach Library book swap/sale. Students from Tahoe Music Institute and North Tahoe School Jazz Band will perform holiday classics.
